Indoor Recreation Facility Granted Planning Consent
Basketball Training Facility in Stepney, South Australia Opening Soon
Certified Planning and Development has partnered with Norwood Basketball Club in their quest to open a new basketball training facility in Stepney, South Australia. In May 2026, planning consent was granted on the new facility transforming an existing warehouse into an elite training centre for some of the states best Basketball players.
CPD has brought planning expertise to the project and has managed the planning approval process for what is a complex development proposal. The project consists of a change of land use from an existing warehouse into an indoor recreation facility, with associated alterations and advertising signage. Complicated planning issues such as traffic flows and on site parking were key in the assessment. This was made even more difficult given the facility is sited on a busy road maintained by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.
Together with our industry partners, CPD was able to demonstrate that the facilities impact is reasonable and the benefit of the project far outweighs any negatives. Traffic flows will not be unreasonably impeded, and parking is sufficient to enable the elite faculty to operate without disturbing neighbouring land users. Importantly, the facility provides a new community land use within a mixed use precinct, meshing well with existing commercial land uses, adding to what is already a vibrant locality.
CPD is proud to provided a critical role in assisting a prominent community based local sports organisation. Working together to grow what is so often an under-funded and under-sponsored sport in Basketball. We are excited to see the facility take shape over the coming months, and can’t wait to see it help Australia’s next great basketball players.
